About the Department

Welcome to Comparative Literature

Foreign languages. World Literatures. Study abroad.

A large and diverse department, we offer courses in world literature and languages, literary theory and interdisciplinary studies. We utilize contemporary and historical comparative approaches to European, African, Asian, and American literatures and cultures. In addition to exploring other regions of the world, our multi-ethnic American literature courses also gauge localized regional developments. Our interdisciplinary courses focus on the intersections of literature and cultural studies,  film and other visual arts, literature and politics, literature and music, and literature and the environment.
